A billionaire with ties to luxury cars, pro sports, and Hollywood is now taking aim at clean energy in Texas. According to Chris Tomlinson of the Houston Chronicle, Houston billionaire Dan Friedkin is quietly backing Senate Bill 819, which critics say could cripple new wind and solar development in Texas.

Friedkin, known for owning AS Roma and producing the energy-themed TV show Landman, is behind a group called Stewards of Texas Association. The organization was founded by his lobbyist David White in 2024 and has since pushed hard for legislation to slow down clean energy progress. Their latest target, SB 819, would introduce some of the strictest permitting rules in the U.S. for renewable energy facilities.

Although Friedkin has branded himself a conservationist with land projects in Texas and Africa, his actions suggest a very different agenda. He reportedly opposed a transmission line near his private hunting ranch and has funded politicians who Support anti-renewable bills. His Gulf States Toyota PAC has donated tens of thousands to Texas lawmakers backing SB 819.

The Texas Senate already passed the bill, despite more than 100 people speaking out against it. Experts warn that such legislation could derail Texas’s clean energy boom, which currently leads the nation in utility-scale wind and solar power. These renewable sources have been key to keeping energy prices low and preventing blackouts, especially as demand from crypto mining and data centers surges.

Behind the scenes, billionaire influence—shielded by dark money political groups—continues to shape energy policy away from public scrutiny.

If you believe in a future powered by clean, affordable energy, now is the time to act. Speak out against fossil fuel billionaires trying to block progress. Support local renewables, vote for clean energy candidates, and consider switching to plant-based products to reduce your carbon footprint. Every action matters.
