Sam Simon, Co-Creator of ‘The Simpsons,’ Donates $100 Million To Animal Rights And Other Charities

When Sam Simon was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in 2012, the Simpsons co-creator and founder of the Sam Simon Foundation was given the bleak news that he would probably be gone before the next year. Given three to six months to live, he’s defied the odds while continuing to build a legacy of philanthropy, activism and generosity by donating his entire fortune to PETA, Save the Children and his own foundation.

An outspoken advocate throughout the years, Simon has fought for animals by funding a court appeal to free the captive orca Morgan, purchasing a chinchilla fur farm just to shut it down and rescuing a racehorse, to name just a few. His foundation focuses on rescuing dogs and training them to be aid companions for the hard of hearing and military veterans.

“I was just an animal lover,” Simon said of his decision to start his organization in the first place. “Everything that the Sam Simon Foundation does is supposed to help dogs and people-that’s our mission.”

We’d say he’s working very hard for that mission to be accomplished! Excited for the work that PETA will be able to do with this recent contribution, Simon said in a recent interview that he’s looking forward to being able to witness several animal liberations that they’re actively planning. “I get to watch these animals that have been in concrete bunkers their whole lives take their first steps on grass.”
