When life gives you lemons, you got to make lemonade, right? Well, for Faa Sai, the rescued elephant living at Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, the story goes more like: when life gives you a wimpy lawn sprinkler … you make a fountain.
In Thailand, wild elephants are greatly at risk from poachers who capture them at a young age and use them as tourism ploys. Thai elephant tourism is incredibly popular, but many people do not recognize the cruelty inherent in trekking rides or painting camps.
Elephant Nature Park is a sanctuary for elephants who have been orphaned by the elephant trade, or who were discovered injured and in need of care. At the park, the elephants are allowed to live freely with their other herd mates – and if Faa Sai is any indication – they have a ton of fun there.
Watching Faa Sai dance in her fountain, turned mud puddle, is sure to bring a smile to your face. This is what a happy, free elephant looks like, pretty awesome, huh?
