What’s a great way to see animals? Out in the wild of course! And a group of lucky photographers, trekking along Livingston Island in Antarctica, got a photo opportunity of a lifetime — of a young elephant seal pup. This little fellow came ashore, among a Gentoo penguin colony, where he got a bit too curious about the strange creatures we call humans. He approached them and got close… a little too close.
The required distance to observe such wild animals in the Antarctica peninsular is 30 feet for penguin colonies and 15 feet for other animals, including this little guy. But, it’s definitely ok if the curious pup wants to get up close and personal. There’s no rule against wild animals coming up to you.
Watch in the video below as this young elephant seal pup greets these photographers with playful nudges. He seems so relaxed among them, it feels like he’ll be able to fall asleep beside them too.
