Loyal Dog Spends 15 Days Without Food by His Guardian’s Grave

We often use the term “loyal” to describe our doggy friends because they’re always there for us; they wait at home with tails wagging and greet us with a sloppy kiss. They follow when you call and love the heck out of you. Cats may seem to care less sometimes about their guardians (sorry cats, we still love you though), but dogs really are the best companions. These photos certainly attest to that loyalty!

Bhaskar Shri adopted his dog Tommy five years ago, and the pair became inseparable. But sadly, the man died in a car accident this year.

Loyal until death and then some, Tommy stayed by Shri’s grave for 15 days without food and water.

Dawn Williams, an animal rescue officer working with Blue Cross of India, first found the pup by the grave.

Williams told the NY Daily News that she was convinced the dog was shedding tears when she approached him!

“I gave him water and biscuits but he refused to move,” she said.

Williams then tracked down Bhaskar’s mother, Shrimati Sundari, a construction worker.

“When Tommy saw her; he jumped on her and was licking her before he rested his face on her feet,” she said. “It was obvious he knew her.”

Sundari thought the dog had found another home, but she was surprised and relieved to take him home with her!

In the end, we’re glad Tommy has found comfort with his past guardian’s mother.
