In times of political crisis, humans aren’t the only ones who suffer. When fleeing from war-torn countries, families struggle to make the difficult trek to safety, let alone stay united with their pets who come along for the journey.

Sadly, this was a case when a family fleeing from Iraq got separated from their adorable cat Kunkush on their journey to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Luckily, a local veterinarian gave the lost cat a checkup and vaccinations and was able to confirm that the cat had come with his family in November. A volunteer named Ashley Anderson set up an online campaign to find Kunkush’s family!

Through the campaign, Kunkush was able to find a new home in Germany. A Go Fund Me page was even set up to pay for his flight! Amazingly, someone in Norway found Kunkush’s story at the Daily Mail and wrote that his family had moved in next door. They reunited on Skype, and then finally met in person! Watch the video to follow Kunkush’s journey and try not to cry!
