Refugee Cat Who Got Lost While Fleeing Iraq Finally Reunites With Family!

In times of political crisis, humans aren’t the only ones who suffer. When fleeing from war-torn countries, families struggle to make the difficult trek to safety, let alone stay united with their pets who come along for the journey.

Sadly, this was a case when a family fleeing from Iraq got separated from their adorable cat Kunkush on their journey to the Greek island of Lesbos.

Just by looking at Kunkush the cat, you’d never guess the journey he just endured. 

This Turkish Van cat traveled to Lesbos with his family, who were fleeing Iraq. Unfortunately, amid the chaos, Kunkush and his family were separated. 

Luckily, a local veterinarian gave the lost cat a checkup and vaccinations and was able to confirm that the cat had come with his family in November. A volunteer named Ashley Anderson set up an online campaign to find Kunkush’s family!

Through the campaign, Kunkush was able to find a new home in Germany. A Go Fund Me page was even set up to pay for his flight! Amazingly, someone in Norway found Kunkush’s story at the Daily Mail and wrote that his family had moved in next door. They reunited on Skype, and then finally met in person!
