In the vast sea of diet trends, a new craze dubbed “oatzempic” is making waves on TikTok. Promising significant weight loss, this simple concoction of oats, water, lime juice, and cinnamon, doesn’t contain Ozempic—a medication known for rapid weight loss—but still claims to help shed up to 40 pounds in just two months. Despite amassing over 1,700 tags on the platform, health experts urge caution.
Dietitian Maya Feller of @MayaFellerNutrition and Dr. Eldad Einav highlight the potential dangers of this diet, stressing that while oats are fibrous, they don’t provide sufficient nutrients alone to replace meals. The diet could lead to muscle loss, slow metabolism, and even nutrient deficiencies if followed long-term.
Further dampening the trend’s legitimacy, registered dietitian Abbey Sharp (@abbeyskitchen) asserts that there’s no scientific backing for the oatzempic claims, emphasizing that such restrictive diets can disrupt hormone regulation and harm one’s relationship with food. Instead, experts advocate for a balanced, sustainable approach to weight loss, prioritizing long-term health over quick fixes. So, think twice before letting oatzempic take over your diet—your body might thank you for sticking with a hearty bowl of porridge instead.
