The thought of having an exotic bird as a pet is quite enticing to a lot of people. Between the bird’s beautiful feathers and their joyful singing, or in some cases, talking, these animals can make a lovely companion. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize what a huge undertaking caring for a pet bird can be. Birds need lots of space and ample entertainment to keep them occupied, they’re also very sensitive animals who thrive with companionship. Not to mention, they can live to be up to 50 years old … so taking in a pet bird is no small task!
Sadly, this leads many people to abandon their birds in shelters and it also makes it a bit difficult for shelter birds to find permanent homes. Take King-O the sweet bird in this video for example. Little King-O’s caretaker passed away and the pain of losing his best friend left this bird severely depressed, causing him to rip his feathers out. He was passed through three different homes before finally ending up at Best Friends Society Animal Society where he has spent the past six years.
As you can see from the video, King-O is quite the charmer and he loves nothing more than spending his days dancing and singing with his favorite humans! Thanks to the dedication of Best Friends, this happy bird has found a forever home – and we hope that he will spend many, many years with his new caretaker.
If you are considering adopting a pet bird, be sure to do all your research first as they require more specialized care than a dog or cat. Check out this article to learn more about adopting a pet bird. To learn more about Best Friends Animal Society, click here.
