What do you get when you mix a freshly soaked pit of mud and a herd of playful elephants? Hours of amazing fun, that’s what. Just ask the rescued elephants from Elephant Nature Park in Thailand. These little guys are more than jazzed to see the fresh vat of mud that their caretaker has so kindly just sprayed with a hose. There is nothing like fresh mud.
Elephants use mud as a natural sunscreen to protect their skin from the hot rays of the Thai sun. While this mud bath does have its practical benefits, we have a feeling that the baby elephant featured in the video is more into getting down and dirty for the fun of it. He is certainly not concerned about getting dirt behind his ears as he dives in head first and rolls around in all the cool, sticky glory.
Asian elephants are greatly threatened by the Thai tourism trade and poachers, but these elephants are safe and sound in the care of Elephant Nature Park. Thanks to their devoted caretakers, the biggest worry these elephants have is whether this mud pit will get another round of watering anytime soon!
