Today, I’m excited to share a recipe for a luxurious and decadent DIY body wash that I’ve been making for my family for quite some time. This body wash not only foams and cleanses but also deeply moisturizes. You may wonder why I choose to make my own. First and foremost, I want to avoid harmful chemicals commonly found in commercial body washes. Secondly, I love saving money, and lastly, I need a product that effectively cleans while nourishing my dry skin. This homemade body wash ticks all those boxes!

Many store-bought body washes are packed with potentially harmful ingredients like sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, triclosan, and artificial fragrances. These chemicals can irritate your skin, disrupt hormones, and even affect your organs! As I like to say, “If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin!” These substances enter your bloodstream and can accumulate over time, leading to health issues. Making your own products is not only easy and fun, but it also empowers you to avoid these harmful chemicals. So, let’s dive into this recipe!

Lavender Silky Body Wash

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups distilled water
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1 teaspoon guar gum
  • 1 cup lavender castile soap

Preparation:

  1. In a blender, combine all ingredients except the castile soap.
  2. Blend on high for about 1 minute until well mixed.
  3. Gently stir in the castile soap.
  4. Pour the mixture into your chosen container.

I recommend adding the castile soap last because blending it will create excessive foam that can take days to settle. This recipe yields roughly 30 ounces, and remember to shake it before each use, as it may separate initially but will remain mixed after a couple of days.

It’s that simple! All these ingredients are nourishing and beneficial for your skin. If you prefer a quicker recipe, you can simplify it by omitting the aloe vera, olive oil, coconut oil, and shea butter. Guar gum acts as a thickening agent, giving your body wash a smooth, silky texture; without it, the wash may be too watery.

Castile soap is highly concentrated, so always dilute it with water when using it on your skin, as it can irritate sensitive areas. I recommend Dr. Bronner’s castile soap for its organic ingredients and wide availability. It comes in various fragrances, and one of my favorites is Sweet Almond. I love combining orange essential oil and lavender with the Sweet Almond soap for a light, invigorating scent—perfect for a refreshing body wash.

I hope you enjoy this rich and moisturizing silky body wash recipe! Remember, transitioning to chemical-free products is easier than you think. You won’t break the bank, and you’ll end up with some of the most indulgent body care available!
