Tourists at the Mjejane Game Reserve near South Africa’s Kruger National Park were watching a newborn baby buffalo wandering around their car all by his lonesome when all of a sudden a female lion appeared down the road!
Luckily, the lion never had a chance, and the buffalo’s mom came out of nowhere, quickly chasing the predator away before it came close to her baby. It looks like the newborn wasn’t so alone after all!
Zoos typically separate predators and prey, which keeps them safe while preventing them from living naturally. But as this video shows, when nature is allowed to take its course, things work out all right in the end. While zoos give people a chance to view wildlife up close and watch some of their behaviors, you’d never get a chance to watch a mother animal rescue her baby, or other incredible acts that animals can only perform in the wild.
