Rescued after being abandoned on the grounds of a music festival in Somerset, Glastonbury, U.K., Dolly the dog has now found herself in the spotlight of media outlets around the world. While her abandonment is sad, there seems to be a positive light at the end of the tunnel for the white lurcher. After all, the one and only Dolly Parton herself has expressed great interest in the well-being of the dog who is named after her.
Dolly the dog was found abandoned in a tent at the festival; Dolly Parton performed for the first time at the festival, hence the dog being named after the amazing country singer. So when Dolly Parton found out about the dog and that she had been taken to the Happy Landings animal shelter in the U.K., the singer and animal lover immediately wanted to know how Dolly was doing and about the care she was receiving.
“I had my manager call the Happy Landings animal shelter to make sure the dog is being treated and cared for properly. At this time, nobody has claimed the dog and the dog is in great hands at the shelter. I will take the dog home to America if nobody claims her within a reasonable amount of time,” said Dolly Parton in a press release.
Many concerned people, including the human Dolly, have contacted Happy Landings shelter to find out about Dolly who is being described by the shelter as a “sweet-natured older lady.” It’s good to know so many people care about the dog and that her namesake wants to adopt her should her family not come to claim her.
Dolly the dog is not the first animal to be named after the singer. Remember the world’s first successfully cloned animal? Dolly the sheep was named in 1986 by scientists who were big fans of Dolly Parton!
