Older pets can be great companions for elderly and disabled owners because they’re lower energy, require less exercise, and many are already trained. Unfortunately, senior pets may develop health issues that can be emotionally and financially draining. This is why some desperate or careless owners surrender their elderly animals to shelters, who sadly have a difficult time adopting them out.
Ootsuki, an older Japanese man, is one of those kind pet parents who continues loving and caring for his companion unconditionally. His 16-year-old husky Pao is no longer able to walk like he used to, so Ootsuki made a little wagon to cart him around in the park. This way, he can still enjoy the smell of the outdoors, the feeling of fresh air, and the attention of passersby. Many elderly adults use wheelchairs to get around in their advanced age, so Ootsuki’s idea is quite clever and thoughtful. To him, it doesn’t matter if he seems eccentric wheeling his dog around in a homemade wagon. All that matters is that his pet is happy and comfortable in his old age. If only all senior pets had such understanding and loving owners.
