When I first made the switch to all-natural products, I opted for the easiest route—purchasing trusted brands from my local health food store. However, the initial price hike compared to my usual products was a bit daunting. That’s when I dove into researching how to create my own beauty products at home.
At that time, my beauty routine included everything from face toner to an expensive shampoo to combat my dry scalp. As I explored the world of natural ingredients, I discovered that many of them were multifunctional. To this day, I firmly believe that with just baking soda and apple cider vinegar, you can clean, treat, and heal anything on your body—and even tackle household cleaning tasks!
One of the delightful uses I found for baking soda was using it as an alternative to toothpaste when I was in a pinch. I loved the slick, clean feeling it left on my teeth. However, while it makes for a fantastic one-ingredient toothpaste, I missed that refreshing minty taste, and I learned that using baking soda alone could be a bit abrasive on my teeth.
That’s when I stumbled upon bentonite clay. This wonder clay is not only versatile for various beauty applications, but it also works wonders in tooth powder. It helps draw out toxins from your mouth and may even assist in remineralizing your teeth and healing decay.
After exploring multiple recipes for homemade tooth powder, I decided to combine a few ideas and create a basic recipe that I now use daily. It features baking soda, bentonite clay, sea salt, and peppermint essential oil.
Baking Soda: Baking soda is well-known for its mild abrasive properties, which help polish away stains and plaque buildup. It’s an affordable, natural option for whitening your teeth.
Bentonite Clay: This fine powder gently polishes teeth while providing a calcium boost that may help remineralize your smile. It also absorbs toxins, impurities, and heavy metals.
Sea Salt: Beyond its scrubbing ability, natural sea salt helps heal mouth sores and soothe irritated gums.
Peppermint Essential Oil: Primarily included for fresh breath, peppermint oil also boasts antibacterial and antiseptic properties, ensuring your mouth feels squeaky clean. Feel free to substitute with cinnamon, spearmint, or any other flavor you prefer!
Ingredients:
Preparation:
Simply dip your DRY toothbrush into the powder and start brushing. I like to brush the powder onto my teeth, and then wet my toothbrush slightly before brushing as usual.
And there you have it—a simple, effective way to maintain a healthier smile with natural ingredients! Making your own tooth powder not only saves you money but also ensures you’re using safe, clean products on your teeth. Enjoy your naturally fresh breath!
