Golden Retriever Survives Copperhead Bite

Golden Retriever sitting in beautiful forest

Sasha the Golden Retriever was bitten five times by a venomous copperhead snake while on a hike with his humans in Red River Gorge, Kentucky. The Golden Retriever was bitten when he went ahead of his humans on a difficult part of the trail. When he did not return when they called him, they became concerned and hurried to the dog. When they found him, his hind legs were immobile and he was clearly in pain. Unsure of what had happened, the couple began to carry the large dog. They also called Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team to assist the dog.

To help Sasha receive help sooner, one of his humans ran ahead to retrieve medicine from the team. His other human carried him up the trail so the team could reach him sooner.

Once the rescue team got Sasha off the trail, he was taken to a nearby animal hospital where he received medical care. The Golden Retriever needed two rounds of anti-venom to counteract the snake bite. Once the medical team assessed Sasha, it became apparent that the brave pup had been bitten five times by the copperhead snake that attacked him.

Copperheads are venomous snakes found in the eastern and central United States. Although they do not generally attack unless threatened, they can be deadly to humans and other animals when they bite. Some dogs may demonstrate curiosity about the snakes, which may be perceived as aggression and result in them being bitten. It is advised to keep dogs leashed in areas where copperheads may be present.

Luckily, due to the actions of his humans and the rescue team, Sasha was treated in time and is recovering. Since the bite, he has been let out of the animal hospital and has been able to return home.

Sasha is recovering thanks to the loving actions of his humans and the Wolfe County Rescue Team. However, not all dogs are as lucky. Sign this petition to Help Protect Neglected Dogs!
