A pet bird named Picasso found her way to the backyard of the Humane Society’s CEO after escaping from her home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. This remarkable reunion unfolded over five days, showcasing the determination of both the bird and her owner, Tiffany Neikart. Picasso, a five-year-old cinnamon pearl cockatiel, flew out of her home when startled by something outside. Neikart, who had trained Picasso extensively to respond to her calls, was devastated when the bird didn’t return despite her efforts. As Picasso circled the yard, she was overwhelmed by new sounds and sights, making it difficult for her to settle down.
Neikart’s heart sank as she realized Picasso had flown toward Ann Arbor. After tirelessly searching the neighborhood and sharing alerts on social media, she began to lose hope. The tiny bird, weighing only 100 grams and blending into the gray landscape, seemed impossible to spot. On the fourth day of searching, Neikart ordered a tombstone for Picasso, fearing the worst. But just when her hope was fading, Picasso was discovered by Tanya Hilgendorf, the President and CEO of the Humane Society of Huron Valley.
