Expeditioner, Cedar Wright and his climbing partner Alex Honnold both love challenges and insurmountable odds. In their lifelong quest to put their willpower to the test they embarked on a trip aptly named “Sufferfest.” Why is it called Sufferfest? Well, the goal of the trip was to suffer of course. The pair climbed fifteen of the tallest mountains in California and biked 800 miles and climbed 45 towers the second time, on their first fest-journey. Once this was complete, however, they were not satisfied and set out on another round, aptly named Sufferfest 2.
While there are many things they probably couldn’t anticipate about this trek, including their stamina and the challenges they would face, the pair come across a real surprise one day when they were on a quick break from it all. The two climbers made a pit stop on the side of the road and found a malnourished little puppy, that they later named “Sufferpup,” huddled in the brush! Seeing the little pup, they fell in love and couldn’t just walk away, so Sufferpup became a member of their small team.
The two trekkers obviously didn’t have any dog food on them, so they had to make due with what they did. They made a kennel out of an empty pack of beer and tended to his needs as best they could. This sweet little pup quickly became the mascot of Sufferfest 2, providing morale and comfort to the two climbers who saved his life.
After Sufferfest, Sufferpup was adopted into a nice family in Colorado. Sufferpup is a whole lot bigger, but he’s still the same fluffy, cuddly puppy at heart. Cedar still pops in for a visit now and then and they relive the glory days of the trying time that brought them together!
