An unexpected friendship in the Alaskan wilderness has captivated social media users, leaving them amazed and inspired. Instagram user @akshiloh, also known as Dan, has formed a unique bond with the wild moose near his home, showcasing this extraordinary relationship on his Instagram account.

The U.S. National Park Service typically advises maintaining a safe distance from wildlife—at least 25 yards from most animals and 100 yards from larger ones like moose. Despite these precautions, Dan’s special connection with these majestic creatures has drawn significant attention.

In a particularly popular video posted on April 21, Dan and his fearless cat, Plumps, are seen sitting calmly in the snow next to Tonka, a wild moose. Plumps sits comfortably on Dan’s lap, observing Tonka as she snacks nearby. This serene moment, almost too incredible to believe, highlights the remarkable rapport between the trio. Notably, this isn’t the first time Plumps has interacted with the wild moose, often greeting them with friendly nose boops.

While the heartwarming video has garnered over 1.1 million views, 60,100 likes, and 511 comments, Dan emphasizes the importance of safety in his caption: “Please never approach a moose in the wild for they can be extremely dangerous.” The Alaska Department of Fish and Game notes that moose, despite being generally perceived as less dangerous than bears, injure more people annually in the state. While not typically aggressive, moose can become hostile when harassed or provoked, especially by people, dogs, or traffic.
