Life for a homeless dog is anything but easy. Having to fend for themselves, finding food, water, and shelter can take a serious toll on their mental and physical health. With over 70 million homeless pets living in the U.S., there are several animals who have to brave this sad existence. Unfortunately, this was a life that pregnant mama pup Dottie knew too well.
Thankfully, all of this changed when Hope for Paws was alerted to her presence. Dottie was living on a college campus, hiding out in a small crawl space between a fence and temporary wall. When the rescue team finally found her, she was extremely nervous and ran away from the kind people who were trying to help her, leaving behind her three newly born pups.
Hope for Paws has extensive experience rescuing homeless dogs and knew exactly how to handle the situation. Eventually, they managed to catch the new mother, calm her down and rescue the three little ones as well. After getting the puppies and Dottie into the rescue van, they quickly noticed that one of the pups was very ill.
Sadly, after a series of tests, it was discovered that the sick puppy had fluid in her brain and wouldn’t make it. While it is was heartbreaking to let the puppy go, it was all that they could do. After saying goodbye to her little one, Dottie and the healthy pups were taken to their new temporary shelter home.
Now, Dottie and her two puppies are ready to find a forever home and get the love and care that they’ve always deserved.
