If you have a dog at home, you already know the power of a dog’s unconditional love. When you come home from a rough day, dogs intuitively know and will make you smile simply by wagging their tail and looking at you with their soulful eyes. The bond between humans and animals is special, which makes it no surprise these loyal companions are serving not only as companions but as service animals who help people with disabilities.
Johnny is a nine-year-old boy from Houston, Texas who is battling cerebral palsy. Johnny gets help doing everyday things but sadly, he has had a hard time making friends. But that all changed when he met Lexi the Golden Retriever. As seen in the above video, Johnny and Lexi have formed a strong bond and now are the best of friends. Lexi knows what it’s like to need help too. Lexi was rescued by Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue where she was found outside, covered in fleas and extremely thin. Thanks to the Retriever rescue group, Johnny and Lexi found each other.
“She put her head on his shoulder within five minutes of being in the house,” sais Johnny’s Mom. She also notes that “He’ll crack up and he’ll laugh, just because Lexi is licking his hands.”
And now Johnny and Lexi are helping even more dogs find their forever homes. The Petco Foundation has awarded $25,000 to Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue so that the group can help rescue even more dogs. To make things even better: Johnny and Lexi have a chance to double their reward money because they are up for the People’s Choice Award. Join us by casting your vote to help Johnny and Lexi help even more animals!
