If you are in need of a truly inspirational story, “My Bionic Pet” is just the thing for you. This documentary, airing on PBS Nature, follows the lives of animals that have been given a second chance at life thanks to prosthetics.

The pets featured in the documentary range from pigs to dogs, alligators, and more, all joined by the struggle of missing a limb. Some animals were left disabled as the result of disease, accidents, and even human cruelty, but they are all given a second chance at life by the amazing veterinarians who fit them for prosthetics.

Watching “Driftwood,” a five-month-old border collie, who lost his back legs shortly after birth, transform into a totally new dog after being given his new legs is an incredible experience. “My Bionic Pet” brings to light just how far medicine and technology has evolved to benefit animals. Most of the pet guardians featured on the documentary mention that euthanasia was simply not an option that crossed their minds, and seeing how vibrant and happy these recovered pets are proves just how right they were in that decision!

To see these incredible stories for yourself, you can stream the documentary on PBS.org, just make sure you have a box of tissues nearby!
