Sports fans, this one is for you! The famous Massachusetts restaurant, PlantPub is expanding its brand and will open a plant-based sports bar! The location will be in Boston, Massachusetts, and will open later this spring.
Co-owners Pat McAuley and Mary Dumont first began the PlantPub concept last summer. Dumont is an award-winning chef and has appeared on television programs such as Iron Chef, Top Chef, and The Today Show. She has won numerous awards from the Food & Wine Best New Chef to the Boston Magazine Best New Restaurant and Eater Boston Chef of the Year. With a passion for a more sustainable world, she created the delicious and completely animal-free PlantPub menu.
Co-creator McAuley is also highly successful in the plant-based world. He is the TedX speaker of “A Plant-based Diet Changed My Life,” with over a million views on YouTube. He is an expert in craft beverages and helped develop the concept, operations, and PlantPub’s beverage menu.
The new Boston restaurant will open as a collaboration with famous chef Matthew Kenney with the same mouthwatering recipes created by Dumont and McAuley.
The new location will be 8,000 sq. ft and have over 250 seats, making it the world’s largest vegan sports bar. It will be located directly across the street from Fenway Park Baseball Stadium and draw in many people post-game looking for a delicious plant-based meal and craft beer!
Collaborator Matthew Kenney told the Globe,” I loved what they were doing — the product, the brand … it just seemed like a perfect fit. Fenway is ground zero in Boston, and we couldn’t think of a better location to showcase the fact that plant-based cuisine can be really crave-able and fulfilling and satisfying.”
The first PlantPub restaurant opened just last fall in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has seen much success. The co-founders Pat McAuley and Mary Dumont centered their menu around appealing to plant-based sports fans. They offer tasty burgers, wings, loaded nachos, pepperoni pizza, and fried chicken sandwiches, all made without any animal products! The bar also has numerous craft beers and cocktails.

The new location will offer everything the Cambridge location does, but with an expanded vegan dessert menu, including sundaes, frappes, and ice cream sandwiches.
PlantPub opened with a mission to “make plant-based food approachable and fun for all, allowing people to eat better for themselves and better for the planet in a setting that is familiar and social, the pub.”
In the state of the world and with climate change more prevalent than ever, the pub tries to be as eco-friendly as possible for customers. “With a focus on supporting the most sustainable local farmers, craft brewers, and the best plant-based brands on the market, we are redefining the pub.”
We can’t wait to see the success of this restaurant and applaud them for expanding vegan eating and showing that plant-based food can taste just as good!
