Earlier this month, U.K supermarket Waitrose told the world they would soon introduce 50 brand new products while increasing its vegan and vegetarian options by sixty percent. As part of their vegan expansion plan, they’re also going to be selling a dairy-free mature cheddar-style cheese!
By June 4th, you’ll be able to purchase and enjoy mature cheddar and soft cheese from Koko. Alongside their dairy-free yogurt and milk products is their dairy-free alternative to cheddar, which is labeled soy and lactose-free. It’s packed with calcium and vitamins D2 and B12, which is hard to come by for vegans.

For those who attended Bristol Vegfest, they were able to enjoy a pre-pre-launch of Koko’s new cheeses. Food blogger Heidi Piesayign posted it to Instagram and exclaimed, “June 4th, Waitrose and it’s amazing! The texture on this is exactly like between cheddar and Lancashire (crumbly cheese) not the usually sweaty mess of standard vegan cheeses!”
It seems that just a few months ago, Waitrose was rocking the boat by introducing some vegan menu items. Then, they stirred the pot again by announcing their ban of black plastic trays. Now, they’re continuing to make even more waves in the plant-based world. We can’t wait to see what they do next.
