For many people with food allergies or dietary restrictions, dining out with others can sometimes be a disappointing experience. Wagamama, a British-headquartered restaurant chain that serves Asian food inspired by the tastes of Japan, has already proven to be one of the hundreds of restaurants making vegan food more accessible. They already launched a vegan menu, and ditched plastic straws, but now they’re up to something else.

Now, they’re making a completely vegan version of the ever-popular katsu curry, according to The Evening Chronicle.

This dish is so authentic, and so incredibly tasty, that it’s being called ‘The Impossible Curry’ by customers, simply because they cannot believe it’s plant-based. It’s made with seitan instead of chicken. Seitan becomes surprisingly similar to the look and texture of meat when cooked, making it a popular meat substitute.

The executive chef at Wagamama said, “Vegan, vegetarian, v-curious and flexitarian customers will be amazed by how similar it tastes to the original and iconic Katsu.” He added, “We are delighted to bring this new dish to our fans across the UK.” And you know us, we love anything that’s inclusive.

The restaurant hopes that the vegatsu will appeal not just to vegans, but to the growing number of curious palates that are interested in plant-based food.
