Portland’s Veg Week begins today.

The City of Roses has always been on the cutting edge of plant-based eating. The city is often regarded as a plant-based destination, appearing on plenty of international lists of best cities to visit while vegan, and even going so far as to win PETA’s “Most Vegan-Friendly City” award in 2016.  There are plenty of reasons to love the veg scene in Portland, from mac and cheese burritos to savory smokehouse. If you happen to live in or near the Mt. Hood hood, you’re in for a week of plant-based deliciousness.

Last year was the city’s first-ever Veg Week, and this year they have even more to offer. For one week only, you can enjoy some of the most scrumptious vegan delights the city as to offer at half price. A generous list of 24 participating restaurants includes Noraneko, Virtuous Pie, and Next Level Burger. A map of all participating restaurants are available online,  And while all participating restaurants are strictly vegan, you can be sure you’ll find plenty of satisfying plant-based food no matter where you go.

Veg Week is sponsored in part by Northwest Veg, and culminates in a plant-based expo on Sunday, 10/21. The event will include plant-based food and health exhibitors, as well as host nonprofit organizations. Tickets are $10.00, but if you want to get in free, you can always sign up to be a volunteer.

Mayim Bialik, of ‘Big Bang Theory’ fame, has brought a particularly Portland-esque taste to us in the fore of her delicious Reuben Sandwich. It recreates the flavor of a classic deli reuben with ingredients and spices that mimic the original to a T. It’s packed with veggie bacon, sauerkraut, and deliciously spiced onions. Grilling the rye bread makes all the difference, so don’t skip that step!
