Research by consumer spending experts has identified the best locations for vegans across the U.S.
The study from money.co.uk’s “Diet Destination Report” analyzed city dietary and lifestyle offerings including the number of specialty restaurants, takeout services with dietary options, number of specialty cooking classes, and the cost of ingredients to cook a plant-based meal.
Houston was named the best overall city followed by Denver, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
Houston, which is famous for barbecued meat dishes, tops the list due to the number of specialty cooking classes and the low cost of food. Dallas, also a big barbecue city, is the most affordable place to buy plant-based groceries with the cost of tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and rice being 58 percent cheaper than in New York City.
Los Angeles, Houston, and Phoenix offer the highest number of specialty restaurants and takeout options in the country. In Los Angeles, there are 1,036 plant-based restaurants and 1,596 takeout services while New York has only 911 vegan-friendly takeout services and San Diego has 773.

Another recent study analyzed Google Trends data and searches for gauge interest levels for veganism across the world. The study found the popularity of veganism is at an all-time high, surpassing the previous record-breaking level set in 2019.
Bristol, UK, was at the top of the list, followed by Portland, US; Edinburgh, UK; London, UK; Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg (tied); Manchester, UK; and Leipzig and Vancouver (tied).
