Taco Bell is removing potatoes from its menu to the annoyance of devoted vegetarian and vegan customers. The chain is removing potato entrees, including Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes, Cheesy Potato Loaded Grillers, and the Spicy Potato Soft Taco.

The options will be gone by mid-august. “We know some vegetarian go-to items might be gone, but Taco Bell’s menu remains highly customizable,” Taco Bell said in a press release. “Don’t forget to lookout for the vegetarian symbol on menus to indicate vegetarian products, and remember you can swap out any protein for beans in any menu item.”

Vegans and plant-based eaters on twitter were not pleased. “hey @tacobell idk if ur aware, but u were a safe haven when it came to fast food for vegans/vegetarians because potatoes were used to substitute meat. This was probably your worst idea to date. you’re about to lose more clientele than you’re even aware of,” said @rorodababy in a tweet directed at the company.

The company said that future plans included plant-based options. “We launched the new Vegetarian Panel at the beginning of the year, prior to our shifts in operations over the last few months related to COVID-19,” the representative said in an email to Business Insider. “While some vegetarian favorites are retiring, we’re continuing to innovate across all categories — including plant-based.”

The CEO of Taco Bell has met with representatives from Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, following a statement in April to Bloomberg News on plant-based proteins having ” a place on the menu.”

Meanwhile, KFC recently announced a partnership with Beyond Meat to offer plant-based nuggets in California and Starbucks unveiled a new Impossible Foods breakfast sandwich.
