More Foods is an Israeli startup that was founded two years ago to bring plant-based meats to the market made from seeds. The company aims to use upcycled seeds like pumpkin and sunflower to make vegan meat that looks, tastes and smells exactly like meat.
Leonardo Marcovitz, the company’s founder, claims that these seeds can replicate dark animal meat and are also already incredibly high in fiber and protein. Their meats feature short and to-the-point ingredient lists that are free from major allergens. The sustainable company uses the production waste of these seeds to save the environment and also provide a healthier alternative to meat.
The meat-alternative market has skyrocketed in recent years, and more companies than ever are jumping in to make their own “best” meat alternative. Some companies are using fungi to make their meats, but Marcovitz was set out to find a sustainable and the best way to make his alternative.
Using seeds to make “meat” is a new practice, as most companies use soy, pea protein, seitan, etc. Using these seeds is terrific for the environment as it uses leftover waste to make incredible tasting food. The alternative has more than 26 percent protein and 6 percent fiber, and it will be extremely low in fat.
The company officially launched last week in Israel, and many restaurants have already agreed to test the products across a wide range of cuisines. The seed meat alternatives will be available in shreds, chunks, and steaks.
It’s an exciting time for meat alternatives, and it’s easier than ever to find substitutes wherever you go. Whether it be the grocery store, a restaurant, or even your favorite fast-food restaurant, it’s now just as easy to pick an environmentally friendly alternative.
