Plant-based creamers are gaining traction in the coffee industry. Two years ago, one of the biggest creamer brands, Coffee-Mate released vegan creamers. More recently, Danone announced dairy-free creamer singles. Trader Joe’s also released seasonal plant-based creamer and coffee giant, Starbucks has been introducing more plant-based drinks. There are also new dairy-free milk options appearing on the market often such as oat milk and sesame milk. The availability of so many plant-based options is convincing coffee drinkers to switch the dairy in their coffee for tasty and healthier vegan options.

At the 2018 Coffee, Tea, and Water show, Datassential presented research that revealed just how many people are aware of and using plant-based creamers. Their research found that 64% of coffee-drinkers add creamer or milk to their coffee, 83% of those consumers are interested in plant-based options, 34% use plant-based creamers often, and 33% use plant-based creamers sometimes. Datassential explained that consumers believe the plant-based options are much healthier than traditional milk and creamers made with dairy.

Another reason for the growth of plant-based milk and creamers is the incredibly large variety of products available made from different plants and nuts such as soy, almond, coconut, flax, hemp, oat, rice, pea, chia, quinoa, and more. With so many options that are indeed healthier than dairy, it’s no wonder coffee lovers are making the switch!
