A new food tech start-up out of Israel has just unveiled its first product, which could change the future of the seafood industry.
The company, Plantish, revealed in a press release that it has created a “100% plant-based whole-cut salmon fillet, which mimics cooked salmon in texture, taste, appearance, and structure.”
While companies have tried to bring vegan seafood to the market before and there are some great products out there, the market has been lacking a whole-cut salmon fillet made from 100% vegan ingredients.
The 6-month-old company is currently working on a patent-pending technology that would allow them to create the plant-based “fish” at a low-cost and high-scale. Their motive behind everything? To save the oceans and the animals.
In the press release, the company’s co-found and CEO, Ofek Ron, stated, “We exist to save the oceans and eliminate the need to consume marine animals by providing more sustainable, more nutritious, and more delicious fish options.”
What’s more, Plantish Salmon will have the same nutritional value as conventional salmon, meaning that you can enjoy it and get the same benefits of Omega fatty acids and B vitamins without harming fish, the oceans, or ingesting mercury, antibiotics, microplastics, and other pollutants found in fish.
Plantish Salmon will be available in pop-up locations by the end of the year, but it won’t officially launch to the market until 2024. You can keep up with their progress and work on their website here.
