Plant-based eaters know what it’s like to feel left out at the dinner table. Having to go hungry for your beliefs often instills empathy for others with dietary restrictions. It’s the reason many vegan offerings pay attention to nut, soy, and gluten products present in their own creations. This sensitivity is on full display at Siete Family Foods, a family-owned Mexican-American food company specializing in plant-based dips and gluten-free tortillas and chips.
Their inclusive approach seems to be working. Recently, Siete Family Foods accepted a bountiful amount of outside funding from the Stripes Group, an equity and venture capital firm who invested $90 million into the plant-based Mexican food manufacturer. The Stripes Group is the brand’s first institutional investor, and CEO Miguel Garza said that it will probably be the brand’s final infusion of outside funding.
The Stripes Group has a long history of success in the food industry, having also helped to jump-start GrubHub/Seamless, Blue Apron and Califia Farms. Time will tell if Siete Family Foods will have the same impact, but one thing’s for sure – vegan food is a fast-growing industry, and the more inclusive plant-based brands can be, the more likely bright thing are in their future.
