Here’s a preview of what you can expect to see more of in 2018 according to Pinterest’s global data along with some recipes from the Food Monster App so you can take advantage of these trends now!
1. Coffee Enhanced With Superfoods
Prepare to start drinking your coffee with more than just plant-based milks and sugar. In 2018, find ways to enhance your coffee with superfoods from maca to protein powders. These will add an extra boost to your caffeinated drink to help you power through your day. You don’t have to stop with your coffee, either. Add superfoods like maca to other drinks like this Hot Chocolate With Maca and Tonic Herbs, pictured above, and Green Superfood Detox Smoothie.
2. Moroccan-Inspired Dishes
Transform some of your everyday meals with a few new spices! North African spices are expected to take over in the new year. From cumin, to coriander, to cardamom, there are plenty of ways to make your dishes more flavorful with a few spices and the right recipes. Take a look at this Moroccan Chickpea Bake, pictured above, Moroccan Quinoa Stuffed Sweet Potatoes, and Moroccan Spiced Lentil Butternut Squash Burgers.
3. Plant-Based Proteins
Pinterest expects for plant-based proteins to make more of an impact in the new year. You can receive all the nutritional benefits you need from proteins like lentils, hemp, and quinoa. Worried about sacrificing flavor? With the right recipes, you can create delicious, tasty meals with plant-based proteins. Check out these Red Lentil and Butternut Squash Burgers and Chickpea Spinach Stew With Lentils and Quinoa, pictured above.
4. Plant-Based Desserts
With the right substitutions, you can bake desserts that are entirely plant-based. Pinterest predicts that will be a trend that picks up in 2018 with consumers ditching eggs and dairy products in their sweet treats. By using other ingredients like flax seeds, you can mimic the consistency of an egg to create delicious baked goods. Try your hand at swapping out animal products in your desserts with recipes like this Raw Chocolate Caramel Pecan Cake, pictured above, and these Sweet Potato Brownies.
5. Korean Hot Sauces
If you’re a fan of Sriracha, it’s time to try some new hot sauces. More specifically, Pinterest anticipates that Korean condiments like Gochujang will gain popularity. This bright, red, spicy chili paste is used in Korean cooking to add flavor and spice to dishes. Want to try out this spicy sauce? Make these Vegetable Tteokbokki: Korean Spicy Rice Cakes, pictured above, or this Sundubu Jjigae: Korean Spicy Stew With Silky Tofu to experiment with a new hot sauce!
