New England Patriots offensive lineman Lawrence Guy is one of the most recognizable vegans in sports, weighing 315 pounds and being 6’4 feet tall.
Lawrence Guy recently opened up about his decision to go vegan, explaining that he and his wife decided to slowly cut meat from their diet several years ago. He talked about the physical benefits that he has seen since going vegan, specifically how he feels less groggy in the mornings, less bloated, and his joints don’t ache as much as they used to.
Guy said, “Every offseason, I wanted to truly help my body fully recover. My wife and I started taking out heavy red meat products, and my body felt better, my joints felt better. I never really drank milk. Then we started taking out chicken. Then you go to the fish. We didn’t cut it down immediately. I needed to make sure I slowly worked myself into this. When people jump straight into it, you get the headaches, and you start losing too much. We did it over the years, constantly going towards a more plant-based diet
Now the lineman’s diet mainly consists of plant-based foods like vegan pancakes, cauliflower pizzas, cauliflower rice, and hummus.
Even after cutting out animal products, Guy still managed to maintain his weight and strength, allowing him to compete with even more endurance than before.
