The future of food is plant-based, and thanks to several top chefs leading the creative ideas of today, vegan food is being reinvented and elevated. Matthew Kenney, a raw food chef and celebrity vegan with several plant-based restaurants under his belt, countless cookbooks and an unmoving motivation to better the restaurant scene, is going on yet another venture. According to Eater Philidelphia, he’s bringing his vegan pizzeria, Double Zero, to Philadelphia!

Double Zero first opened in the East Village, and now he is planning on a January 2019 opening. They’re also headed for Brooklyn, Boston, and LA. Diners can expect the same deliciously crafted wood-fired pizza pies. Complete with nut-based cheeses like smoked almond ricotta, sunflower parmesan, and cashew mozzarella, which are all available at the New York location.

Of course, the second Double Zero will still include its Tuscan kale Panzanella, antipasto salads, weekend brunches, zucchini lasagna and sweets like tiramisu and apple cider cheesecake.

Matthew Kenney is a James Beard 2-time Award nominee, based in California but expanding his culinary expertise all over the world. When he first began, he was a French-trained chef, cooking up hefty meat and fish dishes throughout New York City. But after becoming a partner at a raw food restaurant in 2004, he moved on completely and has since opened many restaurants, from pizza to nutritious and stunning brunch menus.

Cheers to another new vegan restaurant opening that will, hopefully, encourage more people to try plant-based foods. As Kenney says, food doesn’t have to be bad for you to taste good.
