Have you heard of Kind Kones yet? The all-vegan ice cream shop is the first of its kind (ha — get it?) to open doors in Malaysia, and we are seriously drooling over the shop’s creamy, decadent looking selection of flavors.
Created by Serina and Ishpal Bajaj, who are also the co-owners behind the vegetarian lifestyle Malaysian restaurant, Raisin’ the Roof, Kind Kones offers customers a variety of flavors that are all totally bereft of ingredients like eggs, dairy products, refined sugar, emulsifiers, preservatives, additives, artificial colorings, and flavorings.
Additionally, their flavors are sweetened primarily with coconut sugar — some also use a splash of pure maple syrup or agave, or else rely on actual fruit to help flavor and sweeten the ice cream.
Customers can enjoy staple flavors such as Salted Chocolate Chip, Cinnamon Toast, and Strawberry. If you visit Kind Kones during a specific season, however, you’ll be able to choose from their rotating casts of unique and seasonal flavors, such as Sweet Corn, Matcha, Jackfruit, Black Sesame, and more.
Each of the flavors features either a coconut, cashew, or almond base. Some even incorporate all three into their mixtures, and no two formulas are exactly alike.
“There’s a small but growing vegan community in Malaysia who can’t eat any ice creams,” Serina told Female Mag. “Every dessert here has a purpose.”
This Mint Chocolate Chunk cone in their signature flourless gluten-free is creamy, dreamy, and refined sugar-free.
Make Your Own Vegan Ice Cream
If you aren’t in Malaysia, you can still experiment with different vegan ice cream bases and concoct your own mixture from the comfort of your home! We’re pulled several unique recipes from the Food Monster App to get you inspired and help kick off your plant-based frozen dessert journey on the right foot.
This gluten-free Almond Corn Flake Ice Cream by Jasmine Briones combines nostalgic breakfast flavors with creamy, sweet dessert.
This is not the most traditional flavor, but it’s super tasty! That cereal flavor in desserts is rotating around various ice cream/dessert shops throughout the U.S. and internationally as well. Why not make your own? Skip the line, skip the weird ingredients you’ve never heard of, and make your own creamy and decadent almond corn flake ice cream!
This grain-free Soursop Sorbet by Azucena Noriega is one of the unique plant-based ice cream flavors featured on our Food Monster App.
Soursop is one of those fruits that despite having an abrasive appearance, is actually super sweet and yummy. Unfortunately, it is far from the easiest fruit to eat in public or on the go, especially considering it has many seeds. This refreshing sorbet allows you to enjoy all of the unique sweetness of soursop without the trouble. The preparation of the sorbet is quite simple, just mix the soursop pulp with water and sugar, let it cool, and then churn in the ice cream machine.
This 4-Ingredient Pistachio Nice Cream by Aryane Héroux-Blais is grain-free and super simple to make!
In a world of chocolate and vanilla, pistachio non-dairy ice cream can be tough to come across. Luckily, you can make your own at home using only four ingredients! This recipe is made using vanilla plant-based milk, frozen bananas, avocado, and raw pistachios, but you would never guess that because the texture is strikingly similar to gelato. Finally, for a cute soft-serve ice cream shape, use a pastry piping bag to make swirls!
