Picture this: Cinco de Mayo on a Saturday afternoon, and you’re surrounded by friends, huge pitchers of fruit-infused, icy margaritas and a plethora of plant-based Mexican dishes to mix and match. Just in time for this Mexican Independence celebration, Los Amigos in Atlantic City is playing with an updated vegan menu.

While we always enjoy a good Mexican dish, of course, they often contain meat, cheese or sour cream. The desire to change this in the restaurant scene is what drove Los Amigos to create vegan Mexican food.

The owner, Curt Taylor, said, “My grandson had a lot of allergies as a young child, and Curtis became very interested in making his own food from scratch. He worked his way into veganism from that point, working with his son’s allergies. Obviously, being a chef in his own right, he had a strong background in the culinary industry and this was an avenue he decided to take.”

At first, they started with vegan tastings and saw great results, which led them to add an entirely vegan menu.

Their menu has plenty of vegan options to choose from. They have Quinoa Stuffed Grilled Portabello, Potato Chorizo Flautas, Black Bean Tamales, Drunken Mushroom Tacos, L.A. Vegan Tacos, a Black Bean Soup, and Portabello Fajitas! One of the favorites is the Portabello Fajitas, which are filled with chili marinated grilled portobello, served over fried onions and peppers with Pico De Gallo.
