The fast food world is changing fast! There are plant-based options at fast food chains where people never expected to find meatless options. Burger King has a meatless whopper using the Impossible patty. Red Robin serves the Impossible burger at all locations. Carl’s Jr serves a Beyond Meat burger and Del Taco offers Beyond Meat vegan crumbles. Kentucky Fried Chicken announced about a year ago that they planned on offering vegan “chicken,” and now they’re following through!

Since KFC has the word “chicken” right in their very name, it may be surprising to some that they’ll be offering a meatless option. However, it actually makes perfect sense that they’d branch out and be the fast food chain to offer an interesting vegan take on “chicken.” They aren’t going to get too creative, they are just going to do a trial run of a meatless take on a classic. Many UK and Ireland KFC locations will be testing “The Imposter” burger which has a Quorn fillet (instead of a chicken fillet) coated in the Colonel’s Original Recipe herbs and spices.

In many of the places adding meatless options, substitutions have to be made for cheese and mayonnaise to make it vegan, but KFC is going all the way. It will be served with vegan mayo, fresh iceberg lettuce, and a soft-glazed bun.

KFC UK and Ireland’s Victoria Robertson called The Imposter: “a vegan burger that the Colonel would be proud of.” It’s always exciting to see popular restaurants and fast food chains acknowledge that people want less meat by offering vegan and plant-based options!
