Jack in the Box is the latest fast-food chain to unveil a plant-based offering. Called the “unchicken” plant-based chicken sandwich, the brand is testing the plant-based option throughout California.

In a partnership with Raised & Rooted, Tyson Foods’ plant-based protein brand, Jack in the Box will feature Jack’s Unchicken and Jack’s Spicy Unchicken sandwiches.

The sandwich is made with pea protein isolate and the traditional Jack in the Box crispy breading. Chicken sandwiches are popular delivery items as of late and the chain hopes to be added to the trend.

“Jack in the Box is delivering industry leading innovation with the first plant-based chicken sandwich at retail in the U.S.,” said Jennifer Kennedy, chief product officer, Jack in the Box. “We are excited to meet the growing demand for meatless alternatives with our new Unchicken sandwiches providing indulgent taste, crispy crunch, and savory flavor in a new plant-based option.”
