Finally, Company Launches Vegan Bolognese Sauce!


Chef and cookbook author Marie Rama has launched a vegan bolognese sauce that was inspired by a personal health scare.

Marie had written a cookbook called Bacon Nation, with recipes using bacon – during the course of creating recipes for the book, her husband, Mark, ate many of her bacon-filled recipes, and was diagnosed with heart disease a short time after Bacon Nation’s publication.

The couple realized they needed to make a change, and made the switch to a whole-food plant-based and oil-free diet. After making the change, the couple has reported that Mark is healthier than ever, and now they’ve created Fresh N Free and released a plant-based bolognese sauce to help others eat healthy plant-based meals without sacrificing flavor.

The new sauce uses walnuts for a meaty texture, along with shredded cauliflower, carrots, onions, mushrooms, and garlic. The gluten-free sauce has 60 calories per serving and retails for around $14.00.

“I cooked up a storm of vegan soups, stews, salads, shakes, and one recipe brought me to an ‘ah ha’ moment — a vegetable Bolognese,” said Marie. “I thought if I could get the sauce into a jar and make it shelf stable, I’d have a unique product not only for vegans, but also for moms, healthy eaters, dieters, and any one looking for a multi-vegetable, oil-free pantry sauce.”
