The EU’s new 2022 promotional policy will seek to encourage more plant-based diets after branding red and processed meat as a cancer risk. Their goal in 2021 was to promote a plant-based diet and prepare people to make the switch in 2022.

The policy This new policy takes a fair share of funding away from the meat sector and dedicates €185.9 million to promoting EU agri-food products in and outside the EU. Environmentalists have long opposed the EU’s funding of the meat sector. Now it will be much more limited in their funding and campaigning.

This move has received criticism from the animal farming industry, but many members of society have applauded the change as the demand for more plant-based eating is only growing.

Sustainable proteins are one of the main concerns in the EU. Environmentalists and scientists are pushing for more sustainable options as the meat industry is a huge contributorr to climate change and Pollution.
