Every so often, we get sidetracked from our healthy-eating gameplan and crave indulging in a comforting, carb-heavy treat. Luckily, many big name brands offer plant-based alternatives so we never feel like we have to miss out. Ben & Jerry’s offers vegan ice cream when we’re in the mood for something sweet and cold; the Beyond Burger is more accessible than ever. So when we saw that Einstein Bros Bagels released a brand new line of “Shmear” (aka, cream-cheese) filled mini bagels that they’re calling “Shmearfuls”, we didn’t despair about missing out: we just got to brainstorming how to make bagel creations from home that were even more satisfying.
The Shmearfuls come in the following six flavors: Jalapeño Cheddar and Plain Shmear, French Toast and Maple Shmear, Everything and Plain Shmear, Asiago Parmesan and Plain Shmear, and the Plain and Plain Shmear. We searched through the depths of our Food Monster App to present you with some truly stellar recipes that won’t have you feeling like you’re missing out at all. Check them out:
Part I: The Pretzels
These Jalapeño Cheddar Pretzels by Gabrielle St. Claire are soft pretzels like you can get from the streets of New York City, but better, because they’re homemade, they’re cheesy, and they’re spicy. Break these up into bite-size portions for movie night with your friends and family!
These Everything Bagel Soft Pretzels by Emily Brees combine the soft and fluffy texture of pretzels with the fun and flavorful seasoning of an everything bagel. Garlicky, textured, and perfect for dipping in some mustard! Or you can get creative and slice this pretzel in half and make a sandwich.
Part II: The Shmears
Part III: Pretzel-Inspired Creations
Level up your pretzel game with the following non-traditional pretzel-centric recipes:
These Pretzel Wrapped “Cheese” Dogs by Gabrielle St. Claire will bring you right back to your childhood summers. They are wrapped in a perfectly textured homemade dough, sprinkled with cheese inside and out, and then served with a zesty spicy mustard.
Frozen Pretzel Peanut Butter Bites by Abby Thompson are the perfect no fuss treat. Although they melt quickly, they’re gone way too fast for that to matter! Hand people a bunch of frozen chocolate peanut butter treats and they will make like the beer in the house last weekend and disappear.
