Danone is launching milk that mimics dairy instead of trying to replace it with nut milk. The company expects that this new product will be more appealing to customers. Other non-dairy milks have a main ingredient like almonds, soy, or cashews, but this new plant milk would be made much differently than any other plant milk on the market.

Danone owns Silk, Alpro, and So Delicious. And their goal is to stop marketing their plant milks as their main ingredient. Instead, they aim to create more appealing names like Nextmilk, Not Milk, and Wondermilk.

Previously Danone was a completely dairy-based company, selling only the traditional dairy milks. But now, they have taken a greater step towards plant-based milk alternatives. They hope to broaden their product lines with their adjoining companies, drawing more and more people to buy plant milks instead of dairy milk.

The President of Plant-Based Food & Beverages and Premium Dairy at Danone North America, said, “Many Americans are looking for sustainable and nutritious solutions to add to their diets. And swapping plant-based alternatives for traditional dairy options is a step towards progress. We predict that the emphasis on plant-based nutrition will accelerate over time. And we are here to help meet those needs.”

Currently, 40% of households in the US and 30% to 50% of households in Europe buy plant milk. Danone wants to increase those numbers and convince more people to buy plant milk by changing plant-based milk names and how they market them.
