Fast food chains are beginning to offer plant-based options. Burger King just began testing a whopper with the vegan Impossible patty and places like White Castle and Red Robin are joining. Chick-Fil-A is another very popular fast food chain restaurant. They’re known for their chicken sandwiches and therefore aren’t exactly veg-friendly. However, they may be looking for a way to begin incorporating plant-based foods into their menu. They recently decided to test out a healthy, vegan side dish: the Kale Crunch Side.

The new side dish is made with a blend of curly kale and green cabbage, topped with salted, crunchy almonds and an Apple Dijon Dressing. The restaurant recommends that diners order it alongside their typical chicken-based dishes, but some people might still appreciate a healthy, plant-based option on the menu even if it is just a small side salad.

It’s currently being tested at the Orlando, Daytona, Space Coast, and Gainesville, Florida; Eastern Iowa; and Tyler-Longview, Texas locations. Chick-fil-A will then review feedback and decide whether or not to roll out the salad nationwide.

Crispy, crunchy, spicy, and reminiscent of something you would order in a fast food joint. The patty in Melanie Sorrentino‘s Spicy Fried ‘Chicken’ Sandwich is made from vital wheat gluten that has been cooked in vegan chicken broth, then dredged and fried in a spicy batter until crisp and golden. Serve this crispy patty with your favorite greens and a creamy sauce that’s addictively spicy.

If you don’t want to deep fry them, you can also fry them in a skillet until golden brown. The curry ketchup is a unique dipping sauce that packs a punch and perfectly complements the dish. It also goes great with your morning tofu scramble eggs!
