Six percent of the United States population identifies as vegan, and that’s not counting the people that enjoy vegan food, but don’t fully eat a vegan diet. Every single week, it seems a new vegan-friendly hot spot is opening around the U.S, and especially in New York.
Non-dairy ice creams and all their variations (think ice cream sandwiches, sorbets, freeze-dried and popsicles) have becomes somewhat ‘regular’ on the plant-based eater circuit. Just a few years ago, the vegan ice cream options were scarce, but now they’re a dime a dozen, or should we say a dime a cone. Soft serve is fluffier and less dense than a regular scoop of ice cream.
Now opened in the West Village, Kokus is one of the first spots to offer totally plant-based, organic, nutrient-packed and delicious soft serve which will be made from coconut creams and other healthy ingredients. Each of the offerings on the menu has different focuses and bases. They have an Immunity Bowl with roasted coconut butter, crystallized ginger, crushed sweet plantain chips and organic figs. They also have a Zen Bowl with blueberries, coconut chips, and black sesame granola.
Pick your bowl based on what you need. Need a mood booster, or something to brighten your skin? Whatever it is that you’re body and soul is craving, you can find it in one of these bowls.
Optional add ins include:
- Weekly Seasonal Fruit
- Collagen Boosting Coconut Whip
- Pink Dragon Fruit Dust
- Blue Majik Dust
The founder, Carli Blum, wanted to create a space for people with allergies, where they could sit back and truly enjoy something delicious. She herself lived with severe food allergies and digestive health issues, so she knew first hand how difficult it was. Her goal was to create a purposeful dessert that can improve your health and enhance your tastebuds.
