If there’s one food that we can never get enough of, it’s plant-based pizza. Whether it’s topped with plenty of gooey, melty vegan cheese or one of the less traditional varieties (we will forever be dreaming about this Green Bean Casserole Pizza), our love affair with pizza is one that can never be professed too much. Seriously, we would write a sonnet if we had the poetic talent.
In the past, finding a place to order a slice of vegan pizza was a hassle, but today, not only are there several pizzerias that carry plant-based options, but there are also entire pizzerias that eschew meat, dairy, and eggs — just check out this two-story vegan pizzeria with locations in Portland, Oregon and Toronto. In fact, vegan pizza is even starting to make a name for itself in the mainstream food space. Earlier this month, the National Pizza Awards took place in the U.K. and a vegan pie was named the sixth-best.
The Dolphin, a pub located in Wellington, was ranked among the best pizzas in the U.K.
Their award-winning pie was the Liber pizza, which features dairy-free pesto, capers, plant-based sausage, and fresh and sun-dried tomatoes. Pizzeria co-owner and chef, Anna Gorman, told the Somerset County Gazette that the win is a “major achievement.” She has also made sure that vegans and vegetarians going out to The Dolphin have options, stating: “My partner and I roll our eyes and groan when the vegetarian choice is vegetable lasagne or mushroom risotto, the go-to dishes of establishments that either don’t understand or care about vegan or vegetarian diets.”
The Dolphin’s vegan pizza was among 16 finalists. Congratulations for the win!
