Keftedes is a traditional Greek food. Usually fried meatballs, served with French fries and Greek salad, make the perfect comfort food. When used for parties or meze they are called Keftedakia (the 'akia' means small). For this recipe, we used pinto beans instead of meat but you can use whatever beans you prefer.

  • 4 cups cooked pinto
  • 1 red onion, cubed as small as possible
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup chopped parsley
  • 1/3 cup ground flax seeds
  • 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • pinch of chilli pepper
  • 1 Tbsp mixed dry herbs

  1. In a big mixing bowl mash the beans. Add all the other ingredients and mix with your hands until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  2. Let the mixture rest for 15 minutes and then form little "meatballs" . Fry them for few minutes and serve with fries and Greek salad. You could also bake them as a healthier option.
