When it comes to company growth, it’s not often that you see a jump from $1 million to $10 million in the time span of one year. That is exactly the kind of growth experienced by 20-year old, Daniel Katz and his dairy-free startup D’s Naturals. D’s Naturals was inspired when traditional protein bars gave him stomach issues. The company now focuses on dairy-free protein bars (appropriately named The “No Cows” Bar) and nut butter.
According to Katz, the brand is already on the shelves of top health food stores and national chains including GNC, CVS, and the Vitamin Shoppe. Recently, D’s Naturals has also garnered the attention of General Mills, who is offering research and development Support for the two-year-old company, as well as Chicago-based private equity firm, 2x Consumer Products Growth Partners.
Though still young, Katz knows a thing or two about business. He has the experience of starting an amino acid-based beverage company and inventing a football alarm clock that wouldn’t break, however, the beverage company did not take off and neither company saw the success of D’s Naturals. The Cincinnati native was able to develop his protein bars with start-up capital from his dad and free samples from plant protein companies. Katz was able to replace dairy protein with protein from rice and peas. This winning combination packs in 21 grams of protein with only 4 grams of net carbs and 1 gram of sugar. The protein bars are also gluten-free, soy free, vegan and non-GMO! Talk about making something out of nothing!
The success of D’s Naturals comes at a perfect time as plant-based protein and dairy- free alternatives are on a rapid growth trend domestically and globally. With more consumers looking to implement healthier lifestyles having a clean protein bar option is sure to make a splash for gym junkies, working professionals, and those simply looking for a healthy snack.
Katz is hoping to get D’s Naturals to $100 million by 2019 and with the rise of the diary-free industry, it certainly is not an impossible feat. Hopefully, this story will just add to the trends and proven growth of the plant-based protein and non-dairy sectors.

Contains palm oil. Bummer
And omega-6 rich canola oil also — double bummer
Wrote the company and turns out the palm oil used IS sustainable, rspo certified. Impressed with the young mans rapid response and what seems a genuine concern for animals and the environment. We enjoy these bars but couldn\’t continue to eat in clear conscious unless we dug a little deeper. Glad we did and will continue to support!
