The realities of the egg industry can be hard to come to terms with. Many of us would like to believe that the eggs we buy come from hens who are well taken care of, have tons of room to roam around in, and above all, are happy. In this undercover investigation released by the Humane Society of the United States, we see the truth behind the eggs that are stacked in the freezer section of our grocery stores. The investigation took place at Hillandale Farms in Maine, the largest egg producer in New England and as you can see in the video, the company keeps their egg-laying hens confined to tiny cages, one stacked on top of the other, in a dark room with no windows.

Cages are so small, the hens are unable to stretch their wings — some even die from being caught between the bars. Hens are highly intelligent and each bird has her own distinct personality. What must it feel like to be one of these hens, trapped in the dark for your entire life with your sisters? No creature deserves to live like that.

The best way you can help hens and many others like them is to stop supporting this industry. The reality is, we don’t need eggs. Share this video and encourage others to learn more about the truth behind eggs.
