Pit bulls are often demonized as inherently aggressive, and face discrimination, abuse, and neglect which helps fulfill this prophecy. But one pit bull named Gideon remained hopeful in the face of his abandonment, showing that most dogs will forgive humans for their past transgressions and just want the chance to love and be loved.
When the Bill Foundation received a call about a sick stray pit bull, rescuers Annie Hart and Lisa Arturo found him living in an abandoned lot, shaking with nervousness and suffering from a terrible, contagious skin infection that covered his snout with red, scabrous sores. Hart said he was one of the sickest dogs she or anyone at the Foundation had ever seen.
After receiving extensive veterinary treatment, Gideon the pit bull emerged with a clear face and a big grin, transformed into his joyous, best self. The young cream-and-chocolate dog is now at the Animal Wellness Foundation awaiting his forever home.
While homeless, Gideon would visit a neighbor for scraps of food and gently interact with her cats. According to the rescue, he plays well with other dogs and is already neutered, housebroken, and up to date with shots.
