This is Ma Kettle, a 12 year old black Labrador with arthritis in her hind legs. She was in need of a new home, when her original pet parent passed away in 2012. Luckily, she found a family willing to adopt her in Sedan, Kansas.

But all was not well in her new home. She wasn’t getting along with the family’s other dogs, so she was re-homed again to a town 30 miles away, Independence, Kansas. But apparently, Ma Kettle had other ideas. She ran away from the home in Independence, and showed up somewhere no one expected. Back in Sedan!

No one knows how she managed to get 30 miles by herself with her arthritic legs. With her incredible journey, Ma Kettle made her wishes known. Independence was not the place for her. But, sadly, her family in Sedan could not take her back. That’s when Cindy Powell, an animal rescue volunteer, stepped in. She was the one who recognized Ma Kettle and uncovered her amazing story. And now, Ma Kettle needed her help. So, Powell posted her information on Facebook hoping to find this amazing dog an equally amazing home.

The response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. The Chautauqua County Animal Shelter received calls from all over the country from people interested in adopting Ma Kettle. Now, this lucky old gal is on her way to a forever home in beautiful Florida. We hope she will enjoy her retirement years there with her new family. She deserves it!
